Cesky Sternberk Castle is situated in southeast of Prague. It is truly a very nice fairytale castle.
History of Cesky Sternberk Castle started around 1241. It was built by Zdeslav of Divisov local noble lord. The castle was rebuilt and changed during the course of time. Major changes came in the early 20th century. The castle was equipped with electricity, indoor plumbing and central heating.
The Cesky Sternberk Castle received its name according to its location, “stern” (star) and “berg” (mountain). Something like a star on the hill. The castle also gave the the name to the noble family Sternberg. Their coat of arms contains a big star. Even today, it still owned by the same family. The current owner is the 20th generation descendant of the founder. This is very unusual in our country.

You can also learn about the unique Šternberk collection of copper engravings from the Thirty Years’ War, which is one of the largest monothematic collections of engravings in Europe.
