Cesky Krumlov
Wonders of Southern Bohemia – Hluboká castle, České Budějovice /Budweiss/, Český Krumlov, Holašovice and Třeboň excursion for two days

Almost fairy tale region Southern Bohemia is situated about two hours driving from Prague. Going trough countryside we can admire small villages and towns, fishponds and deep forests.

Our first stop in Southern Bohemia will be Hluboká Castle. It was once built like a gothic fortress on a high rock to guard the valley of the Moldau river, later on rebuilt several times. Noble family Schwarzenberg rebuilt it in last decades of 19th century in neogothic – Tudor style, being inspired by Windsor castle. The interiors of Hluboká will offer us rich woodcarvings, designed by local craftsmen, collections of Flemish tapestries of great value, fine collections of porcelain, ceramics, glass, historical furniture and paintings.

Than we will make a short stop in České Budějovice, home of original Budweisser Beer. We will admire on of the nicest squares in the Czech Republic adorned by baroque Town Hall, renaissance houses and Black Tower.

Finally we will continue to Český Krumlov. It is a unique town, a town almost entirely preserved from renaissance period of time. Upon arrival the tour starts with visit of narrow historical streets adorned by many renaissance houses, the Old Town Hall situated on Market Square, a magnificence gothic church of St.Vitus, where we can see tombs of the last members of Lord of Roses family, other baroque churches and picturesque squares.

After magic night in Český Krumlov, we can visit in the morning the interiors of the Český Krumlov Castle. Situated on a high rock guarding the Moldau river, it was used for centuries like a residence of Lord of Roses, Egenbergs and Schwarzenbergs. Today it houses rich collections of furniture, pictures, china and historical artifacts. Our next stop will be a small UNESCO Heritage village Holašovice, where we can admire rural-baroque architecture from 18th and 19th century. Our last stop in Southern Bohemia will be a historical town Třeboň. Once a residence of the last member of Lord of Roses family, Peter Vok. This quaint town can offer us a charming square with plaque column, Town Hall and renaissance houses and of course Lord of Roses Chateaux. Behind chateaux gardens opens a view at the biggest fishpond, in the Czech Republic, the World.

Unfortunately also Czech history has dark pages. Abandoned by its Western allies France and Britain, Czechoslovakia was occupied by Nazi Germany. First the territories of so-called “Sudetenland” were taken in 1938, than in 1939 the country was divided and changed into German vassal states “Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia” and “Slowak state”. We will show you during this tour places connected with a heroic resistance of Czech and Slovak people and also the places of Nazi barbarian terror…

Meissen
Wonders of Saxony/Germany/ - Dresden /Germany/ Florence on the Elbe, Meissen beautiful renaissance and medieval town with porcelain factory, Swiss Saxony.

This tour shall show wonders of an old neighbor to the Czech Kingdom, wonders of Saxony. After couple hours drive from Prague we will cross the border, climbing up to Cinovec hill. In about forty minutes we get to Dresden, the capital of Saxony. Despite its massive destruction during WWII it still preserves a lot from its former beauty, also thanks to intensive reconstruction. It used to be called Florenc on the Elbe. After short panoramic ride our first stop will be near historical center at museum complex Zwinger. Zwinger was built by Saxonian kings to house endless collections of pictures, armory, porcelain and artifacts in the beginning of 18th century. We will continue with Semper Operahouse, Hofkirche and Residenzschloss still partly under reconstruction. Than comes so called “Fürstenzug” / Kings parade/ a unique relief made from Meissen tiles presenting us all the rulers of Saxony from the beginning till 19th century. After that we proceed to Brühlsche Terrace where the other museum of Dresden can be found e.g. Albertinum, Grünesgewölbe /treasury/ and Gallery of New Masters.

Than our visit will continue to Meissen where European porcelain was born. Meissen is a former capital of Saxony and if you look for medieval and renaissance architecture it is the place to go. We will explore not only the Meissen porcelain factory but also narrow cobblestone streets and picturesque squares. From the Old Market square we will continue uphill to conquer the Albrerchtsburg, old residence of Saxonian rulers.
